Dr. Beer® is a registered Trademark of Jay Hersh.
I am a patent attorney at the intellectual property law firm of Hamilton, Brook, Smith & Reynolds, P.C., and a graduate of the High Technology Law Program at the Suffolk University School of Law in downtown Boston.
Before I went bad, I was a Research Scientist, and a Group Leader on the Mouse Genomic Map Project at the Whitehead Institute / M.I.T. Center for Genome Research. The Mouse Map is part of the Human Genome Project, which isn't really such a silly idea once you realize that all mammals share 40-60% of their DNA. Mice suffer from a great many diseases that are directly analogous to diseases found in humans-- high blood pressure, colon cancer, epilepsy, obesity, diabetes, to name a few. Making the mouse a part of the Human Genome Project actually speeds up research on human diseases, thereby ensuring that we all live 17 and 44/100 years longer than we would have otherwise, and that there won't be any Social Security money left when we retire. Feel free to peruse my varied professional background.
There are other things that I like to spend my time on. One is my ferrets. One odd little pet project of mine is to locate pictures of ferrets in art history. You'd be surprised at how much fan mail this page gets.
I also enjoy doing historical embroidery, mostly Medieval Period, but haven't had much time for that lately. You can see some of the pieces that I've finished, and some I still hope to complete by going to my embroidery page.
Like Jay, I also enjoy homebrewing, but I prefer to make mead. The Mead Lover's Digest is a great source of information, and I have created a book of recipes from it, called the Bee's Lees.
